About the Author: Bud Wells

Born into the car-dealer family of Dale and Lenna Wells of Wray, Colorado, Bud attended Sterling High School, where he met Jan. He began work with the Sterling Journal-Advocate in 1956, joined the Rocky Mountain News on Jan. 1, 1968, and nine months later walked a few blocks down the street to become a part of The Denver Post editorial department. He attained the position of Page One Editor, then in the mid-1970s was asked to create an automotive page for the Post and soon began reviewing new cars and trucks, which he has done on and off since. He’s reviewed 2,600 new vehicles through the years. Some of his accomplishments include:  his first book, “Colorado Car Book,” being published in 1996, in 2009 the board meeting room at the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association building was named the “Bud Wells Board Room,” in 2012 he was presented the “Lee Iacocca Award” at the Gunnison Car Show, and in September 2021 he was among the first class of inductees into the Colorado Automotive Hall of Fame by the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association. That meeting of Jan and Bud at Sterling High School in the ‘50s sparked a love affair which now counts five children, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren among the family. Bud and Jan reside in Greeley.
